How to Utilize Your Baggage Award
Changes and Updates in the Matmid Frequent Flyer Club Program:
Following the introduction of
new Economy Class fare tickets to EL AL destinations in Europe, several changes and updates will be made in the Matmid Club program.
The changes and updates will apply to flight departures as of October 15, 2018.
Sale of the new ticket types will begin April 30, 2018.
Matmid members are entitled to utilize their rights according to the conditions in effect today, for flights until October 14, 2018.
The benefit is for one additional piece of baggage, weighing up to 23 kilos for Economy Class passengers, above the entitlement.
- The benefit is conditional on ordering the baggage award up to 6 hours before the flight
- 50% discount on the price of an additional piece of baggage for FLY CARD and FLY CARD PREMIUM credit card holders, subject to the table below
- The discount is for one suitcase only, beyond the baggage allowance

- The discount is only given to FLY CARD/FLY CARD PREMIUM credit card holders who order the benefit up to 6 hours before the flight

For the Lite ticket: the 50% discount baggage benefit for FLY CARD holders will not apply to the first suitcase; it will apply to the second suitcase (first suitcase for full payment).

Excess baggage benefit in Matmid points to EL AL destinations in Europe: 250 points per direction.
* For flights departing as of October 15, 2018, for sale as of April 30, 2018, the price of excess baggage to Europe: 120 points per direction.
- If payment in money or points with a 50% discount for Matmid Club members with FLY CARD or FLY CARD PREMIUM credit cards adds up to an amount with a decimal point, the sum will be rounded up
- Using the baggage award with payment in points must be completed on the Matmid website (after the identification process, enter the Utilizing Points tab and then enter “Baggage Award” and follow the directions on the website
- Top Platinum members can issue a baggage award voucher for a family member or other acquaintance flying Economy Class even if s/he is not a passenger on the flight and pay the entire cost using points. The baggage award is for one suitcase above the entitlement, weighing up to 23 kilos to any EL AL destination for a passenger flying Economy Class (every passenger is entitled to use one baggage award benefit for every flight segment)
- TL Matmid members flying Economy Class have the option of storing an additional suitcase in the hold of the aircraft beyond the 23 kg weight allowance, in exchange for Matmid points.
- No double benefits
- Missing points cannot be supplemented with money
- Until December 9, 2014, the voucher should be printed and presented at the EL AL check-in counter. As of December 10, 2014, the details of the award will be updated automatically on the flight reservation
- The voucher for a baggage award cannot be converted to money.
The benefit is for use on flights to all EL AL destinations, only on EL AL aircraft. This voucher is not valid for code share flights and/or UP flights and/or continuation flights with other airlines, for which the baggage policy will be determined according to the itinerary.
Without detracting from the aforesaid, as defined in the Consumer Protection Law, 5771 - 2010, the baggage voucher can be canceled as follows:
A baggage award that has not been used (up to one day before the flight departure date) can be refunded to the member's account, keeping its original validity date
After the flight, if the baggage award was not used, it cannot be canceled and points will not be refunded to the member’s account
If a request to cancel the flight is submitted up to 6 hours before the flight time the baggage award can be canceled
Cancelation of the baggage award will be handled by the EL AL Service Center at Tel. 03-9771111
- EL AL may cancel the benefit or change its conditions at any time with no prior notice
- Subject to the benefit conditions and to EL AL regulations and rules as published on the EL AL website
- Regarding EL AL flights, EL AL's general transportation conditions as specified on the EL AL website will apply
- Errors and omissions excepted
