"From Place to Place" Exhibition

EL AL is pleased to host "from place to place" Exhibition by Artist  Ilana Fattal. The exhibit focuses on the duty of every Jew to adjust his customs to those of the communities he visits in his travels.

Israel-born artist Ilana Fattal divides her life between Israel and London. Her works draw their strength from the similarities and differences between two Jewish cultures: the one she was born into and the one she adopted in London - two communities that are at once geographically distant and spiritually close.

Her sculpture combines humor and warmth with cosmopolitanism and modern Judaism. Fattal does not plan her creations in advance, she allows her creative passion to sweep her along, never knowing where it will lead her. Her sculptures radiate warmth and sensuality, with light twinges of naïve romanticism.

Fattal’s work is on display also in the King David Lounge at Heathrow airport London, at the Westbury London Hotel near to Sotheby’s London at "one family" exhibition  that raises funds for victims of terror and in the private collections of collectors around the world.

Ilana Fattal was born and raised in Israel and has lived in London since 1992, where she began to paint in her central London studio. After several years she felt a need to work with different materials and in three dimensional art styles. This need brought Fattal to sculpture which has since become an inseparable part of her life.

"Moments" Exhibition

“My work as an EL AL pilot brings me to many different places where I get to meet people from all parts of the world. These meetings sometimes lead to unexpected places that awaken in me feelings of identification through which I understand that my inner being is in these same spots.

“I find myself following people for hours, engaging strangers in conversation and discovering very quickly that I actually know them quite well. Sometimes I study people from afar and try to decode their inner worlds. It is generally believed that when an artist paints a portrait, he or she should know the subject and should try to express the person’s character through the painting. Yet, I have found that when I paint strangers, I get to know them through the act of painting. My pictures are a collection of selected moments that reflect personal layers underlying day-to-day reality.”

Zeev Ben Dor was born in Jerusalem and served as a pilot in the Israel Air Force. He studied painting under Wolfgang Manner in Austria and over the years has created illustrations for several notable Israeli and international magazines, such as Monitin, Penthouse, Der Spiegel and others.

In 1993 Ben Dor joined EL AL as a pilot in the 777 fleet and since then he has worked in both realms - aviation and art. In recent years he held several exhibitions and has been represented by the Gallery Yoram Gil in Los Angeles. Today, Captain Zeev Ben Dor continues to paint, with great joy, in his studio in Abu Ghosh near Jerusalem.

The exhibition will be on display in the lounge for three months, for the pleasure of EL AL's premium guest.

"Moments in the Sky" Exhibition

Lounge News

EL AL is proud to present ”Moments in the Sky”an exhibition by Artist David Rubinger.
This exhibition documents, for the first time, those very “human” moments in the history of Israel that are intertwined with the EL AL story.
Rubinger spent many hours on EL AL flights with Israel’s great leaders. This photographic exhibition features historical pictures of past prime ministers, such as Golda Meir, Menahem Begin, Yitzhak Shamir, Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres as well as many of Israel’s founding fathers.

David Rubinger, Israel Prize Laureate (1997)

I chose the term ”photojournalist“ without really knowing what it was as a young soldier in the Jewish Brigade of the British Army during World War II.

A Parisian girl named Claudette in 1945 gave me a gift: an “Argus” 35 mm camera. Until that day I had never held a camera - not even a box of Kodak. I fell in love. Well with Claudette and photography. And that’s when I decided what I wanted to do in my life.

I had the privilege of engaging in one of the world’s most fascinating subjects. Not only that, but also in a very special time: the establishment of the State of Israel until the present.

I had the privilege to see the founding fathers up closely; and through the camera lens becoming a nation of a few 600,000 to seven million; recorded when we won great victories and documented the horrors of war and as well the joys and hopes of peace.

I spent fascinating hours with the greatest leaders aboard EL AL aircraft. Even prime ministers fall asleep on long flights. Their feet also swell...

This exhibition presents the first documentation of those human moments. Thus was born one of the photographs shown here:On an EL AL flight from Tel Aviv to New York, Aliza Begin as “Cinderella” and her husband, Prime Minister Menachem Begin, playing “the Prince”.

Behind each of the images presented there is a story. Thank God, all of the stories are happy.

David Rubinger, Israel Prize Laureate (1997)
