Transportation to Eilat: All You Need to Know

Project Description

Eilat is the southest city of Israel, located hundreds of KM’s from the center and the north of the country. Since It is one of the most popular sites in Israel, there is a very well organized transportation system that makes the city accessible for all

.

Although located at the country’s most southern tip point, Eilat is very well connected with the rest of the country, and arriving there and back is easy, which way you choose to do it. Generally speaking, there are three main ways of getting to Eilat – by plane, by car, and by bus.

Eilat: Arrival via Flight

Recently, the Ramon Airport was launched in the Timna area near Eilat. Ramon is a new international airport that carries both domestic flights from Ben Gurion and direct international flights. The airport is located 18 km from Eilat, 15 minutes by car. The city center is easily accessible from the airport. A free shuttle service is provided at all hours. The shuttle departs from the airport every 15 minutes, taking passengers to the various hotels in the city. In addition to the shuttle, you can travel from Ramon Airport into the city via taxi or a private transportation service that can be ordered in advance on the website. You can rent a car at the car rental agencies located at the airport, and there are four bus lines that run between the airport and various parts of the city, including a line that goes directly to the Sinai border crossing.

If you have a bit of time on your hands, and want to arrive by land, here too there are a few options to choose from.

By Bus

Another useful, budget-friendly option, is to take either the day-time or night-time bus to Eilat, from Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, and other main cities. These buses are comfortable and well equipped, and have built-in wifi connection for your travelling leisure.

There are usually two buses per day, one travelling during daytime, and the other an overnight one. Travel time varies according to time of departure, but usually is around five hours. Using the bus system is an economical, friendly, and easy way to make you way down. The bonus of course being, that you get to experience to stunning scenic desert road, crossing from the Northern Negev all the way down.

While in Eilat there are a few way to get around. If you’re staying at one of the hotels on the hotel strip, there are taxis everywhere, that will get you straight into the city centre. Some hotel may have organized shuttles, and it’s worth checking that once at the hotel.

If you felt like a beach stroll, you could always do a nice evening walk into town.
There are also city buses running in Eilat until around midnight. On weekends there are also night buses running too.
