NEW YORK, NY - January 28, 2008 - EL AL, Israel’s national airline, recently welcomed Cardinal Francis George, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the newly elected President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) prior to departing on his first ever trip to Israel.
Cardinal George recently visited the Holyland to meet with Israeli officials and high-ranking representatives of the Catholic Church. He was hosted by the Chicago Jewish United Fund and visited Fassouta, the Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum and was updated on the work of the Hebrew University Bible Project by local Jewish scholars.
“I am most grateful to the Chicago Jewish Federation and to those who arranged my visit to Fassouta and to several other places in Israel,” said Cardinal George.
