EL AL Israel Airlines First In Industry to Offer Satellite Phone Service
Toronto, April 3, 2006 – EL AL Israel Airlines is now the first airline to offer satellite phone service onboard from the Iridium Company at the low cost of US$1.60 per minute.

Available on the 767 aircraft only, the introduction of this service shows EL AL’s commitment to be an industry leader and to remain on the cutting edge of technology.
Calls with the Iridium phone are available to all passengers onboard, and are made with a portable satellite phone available from the flight crew. The phone uses calling cards that are available from the duty free selection on the flight. The calling card costs US$8 for 5 minutes of use, and is valid for 12 months from the date of the first call.
Being dubbed the “5-Star Business Class”, EL AL recently completed a renovation of their business cabin with the installation of new seats with a 165 degree recline and a 60 inch pitch. This improvement is along side the recent revamping of the Matmid Frequent Flyer program, as well as more improvements that are scheduled for 2006 including the improvement of in-flight entertainment.

Currently, EL AL offers direct non-stop service to both Tel Aviv and Los Angeles on wide-bodied Boeing 767 aircraft with 5 weekly to Tel Aviv and Los Angeles. This summer the frequency from Tel Aviv to Toronto will increase to 8 weekly non-stop flights with 5 continuing to Los Angeles.
